Music video practice reflection...
What have you enjoyed?
I enjoyed the fact we were independent in the choosing of our songs as it reflects what we like and therefore will be more passionate towards our project.
What have you learnt?
I have learnt that the filming process is very important and it is heavily relied on to be perfect when the editing process takes place. (E.g. if the lip syncing is off it is hard to correct it afterwards). As well as the fact if there isn't enough footage, therefore I will know for our main project that it is better to film to much than to have too less.
What were the major challenges?
I felt that successfully getting all the camera shots into one take was difficult, we found it hard to film without constantly zooming in which created an unprofessional, shaky look. The control of light and mise-en-scene in our video was difficult to involve as this was an experiment project that would be not be perfect on the first try. At first the editing seemed quite difficult which prevented us from having the full advantage of making it look the best we could make it however, we soon got a hang of it allowing us to add other techniques such as text on screen.
What do you think you did well in?
I felt that the actor we had was very emotive in the music video and was a major part in making it successful, she had been doing mostly good lip syncing which helps create a realistic look. We had a range of camera shots which would have looked better if they were planned out. We also had various locations which help keep the video flowing and interesting to the audience and viewers. We were able to experiment with using text on the screen, we changed the colour and font to suit the music video. We also took separate shots and tried to make them more appealing (e.g . we took a take which was quite dark and played around with the lighting and contrast to make it look better.
What do you think the major challenges will be for your main project?
To find locations that relate and suit our music genre and planning the camera shots out carefully will be difficult. I feel that we would have to base everything on our actor/model as everythings depends on them, which means there is a heavy duty on them and us to make them look the part. (E.g. their costume, make-up, their lip syncing abilities and their acting skills.) They will also have to be fully committed and have dedication to the project.
